Nicola uses mark making as a reflexive part of her artistic process, usually embarking on two dimensional explorations of surface after writing, and is able to then use these to inform the forms and qualities of her metalwork. Nicola uses indexical materials which are traces of previous experiences: smoke, ash, watermarks and touch. Nicola also creates flowing, meditative line drawings which have a chaotic quality, contrasted with a construct of some kind- such as space, blocked out areas or time.

Nicola mainly works on small scale pages, but is expanding the size of her work to become wall mounted pieces which display alongside her word and metalsmithing.
